Photos adjusters actually use
A close-up of a stain without a room shot looks like a splash. A room shot without the source looks like a mystery. Take both.
If a restorer uses a moisture meter, ask for those readings in writing. If you only have a phone, photograph baseboards, the back of furniture legs, and the ceiling below an upstairs leak.
Keep a simple inventory list of damaged contents with approximate age. That list is tedious and it speeds the contents conversation later.
